Speaking of Guilty Pleasures...

Alright, I'll admit it, I am a fan of the Olsen twins.  Hobowear be damned!  I still love them.  When I try to think back to where this love originated I think back to years of watching them on screen.  From Our Lips Are Sealed to So Little Time to Two of a Kind all the way back to Full House.  I watched their first words, first kisses, and each change of a hairstyle or color.  I saw them go to college, become billionaires and start a fashion uproar with their bohemian chic (or homeless chic) styles.  The question is, how could I not love them?  Since they are only two years older than I, it was like they were my sisters.  And since they are twins, and that I am a multiple birth as well, I knew exactly what they were going through when their movie and tv series explored the fights and unexplainable bond of sisters that are the same age.  It's something that no one will ever understand.

It seems that I'm not the only one with a love of the adorable duo, there are tons of blogs out there celebrating their every move and although I'm not quite that concerned about it, more power to them!

Here's a couple worth checking out:

Mochi!

The other night Robert and I went out for Sushi and I was in the mood for a little desert.  I was sad to find that mochi wasn't on the menu and of course Robert had no idea what I was talking about.  "They're like little balls of ice cream with a soft shell around them," I tried to explain.  Luckily he was feeling adventurous yesterday (we also had Mediterranean for dinner and had a dance party in my living room) because we went to Central Market and got a box of Mango Mochi.  So delicious!  A perfect little summer snack. Have you tried them?
Aren't they so cute?
Robert loved them!
I cut my hair real short.  I hope you like it!

Have a wonderful weekend darlings and thank
you so much for stopping by my blog!

Any other ideas on how to spruce up your shoes?

Playing with Needles

I never really thought of myself as having allergy problems.  Yes, I've seen those wonderfully annoying commercials where the cartoon's head is a balloon and they sound really nasally, but what the heck were they even talking about?  Pet dander, pah-cha.   Hay fever, hells no.  It wasn't until I moved to Austin that I figured it out and fast.  If you have any type of allergy problems, even the slightest, DON'T, I repeat DO NOT move to Austin.  People here are constantly talking about their allergies and all the different drugs they're taking to get rid of it.  After getting back from Dallas, having spent several days in a cool air conditioned hotel, I got hit by a mad attack of the allergies.  The drugs I took did absolutely nothing and I decided it was time to get this mess sorted, I made an appointment for acupuncture.

Alright, a couple things to address first:

  • I am not so great with needles.  If you've heard my tattoo story then you know exactly what I'm talking about.
  • Alternative medicine, say what?  I took an Eastern Concepts of Health and Healing class in college so I suppose I'm a little more open to these things.
  • I hate being drugged up.  Every over the counter drug that I've taken only lead to me being drowsy and wanting to sleep the day away, not so great when I'm at work.

So I found a place that had really good prices because they do what they call group acupuncture.  Basically, in order to save you money they put everyone in one big room in their own recliners, to take in the medicine.  Not quite your average acupuncture deal (most places offer you a private room), but it saved me money and besides the snoring man across the room, I really didn't notice the other people.  Once I was under the needles, which was nothing more than 9 short pinches, I was able to relax and was left alone for over an hour.  I guess most people fall asleep, thus the snoring man across the room, but I took the time to meditate and relax.

Two days later I'm still not sure of the effects of the acupuncture, perhaps it will be nothing more than a placebo, but at least it forced to me to sit back and relax and I was a lot happier and stress free after it.

Have you tried acupuncture or any other type of alternative medicine?  I'd love to hear your stories!

Jewelry & Makeup Storage

Jewelry storage is something that I feel like everyone struggles with.  I've never really been an accessory kind of person, but when I finally got my ears pierced a year ago I stumbled into a whole new world of tiny things to clutter my room with.  I'm sure we all have come up with our own ways to sort things, but I thought I would share mine in case your in search of something new.

Sunglasses: I simply took a piece of yarn and tied it around two thumb tacks.  I'm sure there's a prettier way of doing this, but it works for me!

Necklaces: Most of my necklaces are hung on thumb tacks (which I probably need more of).

Rings, Broaches and Dangly Earrings: I found a couple teacups and saucers in my apartment when I moved in. I just stacked them so that the saucer is on top of the cup and it creates a lovely teared display for your heavier items.

Makeup: I keep all my powders and eye shadows in this brilliant Pall Mall tin that I got at an estate sale years ago and my mascara and brushes are in a cute cat mug.

Post Earrings: I don't have it pictured here (because I keep it in my bathroom for some reason) but I keep my small post earrings in a heart shaped ice cube tray.  It works rather perfectly and is super cheap!

I always want to get jewelry displays, especially now that they seem so much more popular and totally cute (I swoon over UO's), but the reality of it is that you can find plenty of things around your apartment that will work just as well and not have to spend much money on it.

Here's a great article from Apartment Therapy about Inexpensive Jewelry Storage that is fantastic and might inspire you to take your tangled necklaces out of that drawer and put them on display!

I'm already thinking of new ways to organize my things!

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart

I spent my Saturday night at Emo's with The Pains of Being Pure at Heart, cheap beer, and lovely music.  Cheers!
