Happy Friday!

Oh man, what a week!  After I had been given a brand new sewing machine I knew I had to start making something right away.  I picked up some fabric this morning and got to work.  I've never really made clothes before and I've always had problems with sewing machines since my mom's tends to break a lot.  I decided to make a dress, and not an easy one, but I wanted to jump right in.  It's a bit sloppy, but pretty good considering I made my own pattern.  I've still got tons to learn, but I think the best way is to just do it and see what happens!

I used tissue paper to make a pattern.

It's not perfect, but I had to start somewhere...
Now I'm just waiting to pick up my wonderful friend Sarah from the airport.  I can't wait to see her!  I should have some fun pictures to post next week from our adventures.  Happy Friday and happy Halloween!

Shop update: more tshirts!

Just added two more tshirts to the store.  I'm hoping to start some new collections soon!

Autumn Colors

Every time I go to the grocery store I can't help but want all the holidays gourds they have displayed outside.  Some of them I have never seen before (the grocery store I go to now is a bit fancier than the one I went to in California).  I can't help but think of their colors when I get dresses in the morning and so have been wearing oranges, browns, and dark green.  Of how I love fall colors!

Arthouse Reopening

On Sunday Leanne and I went to the reopening of the Arthouse at the Jones Center.  They were having events all day including live performances on the roof, some excellent crafts, and food trucks parked right outside the building.  We enjoyed the breeze on the roof, made some masks, and ate "potato magic" that was made in a school bus.

The building itself was quite impressive.

My mask was supposed to be a glitter beard, but I cut the mouth hole too big so it became an oddly shaped mask.

The view from the roof was wonderful.  The building is right down the street from the capitol and the famous Driskill hotel is in the middle of this picture.

Leanne wore my glitter shoes and everyone loved them!

How could you resist something called "potato magic"?

Our favorite performance was a dance group called "Stolen Moments."

Taking a Little Tour

I recently started working at a music school and since I don't know much about guitars my boss suggested I go to Collings Guitar center and take a tour.  They make very high end custom guitars that cost thousands of dollars.  I don't think that I learned much since the tour group was rather large and I was more interested in the cute boys working than what the tour guide had to say, but at least I can say that I went.

A Little Reminder

It’s actually a rare and precious thing to discover what it is you love to do, and I encourage you to remain unapologetically consumed by it. Be faithful to your gift and very confident in its value.

What's the World Got in Store?

Still searching for something to write about.  I've been doing nothing but working these past days and so have little to talk about.  Soon I will be working on new things for the store though and who knows, maybe some prints?  There's always room for expansion.

Old Photos

I'm sitting at a coffee shop trying to get some sort of inspiration for a blog post.  I decided to take some pictures with photo booth and then I started looking through the old pictures I have in there from about two years ago up until a couple months ago.  Good stuff.  It's funny how much we change without realizing it.  I always thought that people who did those "picture a day" things were a bit narcissistic, but how else are we going to remember those bad haircuts, ridiculous outfits, and what our bedroom at the time looked like?

Travel Log: Bisbee, AZ

Bisbee is a quiet little town settled high in the mountains of southern Arizona.  Even though Arizona is awfully hot, Bisbee has a nice mountain breeze which keeps it bearable.  I've been a couple times with my family to stay at the Shady Dell a wonderful little community of airstream trailers decked out in 50s gear.  The first time my family stayed there, a thunderstorm went on all night and we watched "The Blob" on a black and white TV.  So classy!  These pictures are from about a year ago when I went with my mom and sister and stayed in the Tiki Bus.  It's pure vintage heaven!
