Saturday Morning Special

Steps Never Taken
by Alex Mobley

This is the first and last
time that you will see
anything that reminds you
of anyone but me
is it possible to live
and die all alone
crushed by fallen dreams
saved by broken bones
do you believe it true
that this is your one true need
to live, laugh and love
and plant your eternal seed
break out of your box
crawl out of your shell
do things the way you like
don't just follow the bell
that controls the things you do
and take away your thought
controls your every move
even the way your taught
there is something you can change
a way to right a wrong
just follow your own path
and stay up all night long
question your own being
stall from being drone
explore what is your life
don't become a clone
in this messed up world
that controls every last step
from birth until the day
you take your final breath

Let's Hang Out

So last night I took a little test drive on Google+ with their "Hangout" feature and can I just say, it was awesome!  Not only was I able to video chat with three of my friends at the same time, but we could also watch videos together and put these crazy dog masks on our faces with the touch of a button!  It's definitely going to make catching up with my friends a lot easier and it's so much more fun to see their beautiful faces!  Here are some screen shots from our chat, I think they were taken when we were singing the Jurassic Park theme song together.

Surviving SXSW

I don't think I will ever be fully prepared for SXSW when the time comes.  February came and went so fast (even with an extra day!) and I have a March will go by in a blur too!  I know it's time to buckle down and get serious about researching bands and making sure I have the perfect outfits that are totally awesome as well as comfortable and practical.  This is what I'll be shooting for, luckily I have most of these elements already...

1. A good straw hat.  Believe me, you really don't want a sunburnt scalp.  No bueno.
2. Sports bra.  Yes, it's going to be hot and a humid and I'll be spending most of my time outside, there's no way I'm putting on a sweat collecting padded bra.
3. Jean shorts.  I read a couple different blog posts about what other people suggest to wear to SXSW and I think it's pretty ridiculous that most of them recommend wearing a flowy maxi dress.  I don't want to think about the troubles you'll have with all that fabric in a porta-potty when you're buzzed.
4. Comfy (but totally cute) sneakers.  I think sandals would work too but then I think about all the beer (and probably pee) there was in the streets downtown and I want to protect my little toesies.
5. A good, compact camera.
6. Sunscreen, I will be constantly applying and re-applying.
7. Drivers license, always have it readily available and some cash.
8. A small cross body bag, just big enough for the essentials, you don't want to be weighed down during a long day of standing.
9. Edgy accessories, love these spiked hoop earrings!
10. A shweet oversized t-shirt.  Let's the air flow to keep you comfortable.

Now I wouldn't say I'm an expert on SXSW attire, but after some of the stuff I experienced last year, I know I'll be better prepared this year.  Now I just have to figure out what shows to go to!

Saturday Morning Special

In an Attempt
by Alex Mobley

I stare at you in class
not in some creepy way
because you stare back at me
we play this little game
like little scared kids
unable to stop the silence
or break the lock between our eyes
we don't know each others name
but we've learned our facial expressions
you bite your lip when excited
wink just to throw me off
thats the few I know
because I think we think alike
but I can't be for certain
we are two different people
what I see as playful
you may interpret different
you bite your lip when nervous
wink at the person next to me
stare blankly in my direction
never actually looking at me
I may be completely wrong
but I am too afraid to ask
for fear of losing this feeling
with the truth that I am crazy
making up my own reality
to adjust what has been
a long time spent alone
tomorrow will bring an answer
when we finally speak
my name is...
what is your name?
