Saturday Morning Special

Dreaming Nightmares
by Alex Mobley

The emotion that's lost
with each lasting breath
falls back into place
as you drift off to sleep
danger clouds judgement
between nightmares and dreams
separating the two
from one simple manifestation
what once reminded you
that things were so simple
now blinds any true sight
crashes through smiles
dims the bright light
which started this utterance
its mere blabbering of thought
can't be translated
into actual meaning
or recognizable sentences
scrambled in a moment
only clear during sleep
vivid as could possibly be
no memory or recollection
as your eyes slowly wake
and wish that just one time
everything could be expressed
not broken down into fragments
that make absolutely no sense
stolen by some significant force
needing it for its own
to postulate and perpetrate
the one who has taken
all the memories from your sleep
to live out some random life
where there is no control
no order or meaning
no rhyme and no reason
just a collection of actions
created in the mind
that could be reality
but has not yet been considered
another life that we live
as we reenergize for what's real

Cynically Insane
by Alex Mobley

The cynical person in me
knows that it's all shit
but the optimist side
controls all the cynicism
a vicious circle of disheartening
grasping at broken straws
as if nothing else matters
but everything has meaning
deep within an empty soul
lies the truth of an existence
one with hope and exuberance
a model of efficiency
lacking a dreadful thought
creeping through an open mind
bleak notions of happy endings
when we all know what's real
nothing ends completely happy

Steps Never Taken
by Alex Mobley

This is the first and last
time that you will see
anything that reminds you
of anyone but me
is it possible to live
and die all alone
crushed by fallen dreams
saved by broken bones
do you believe it true
that this is your one true need
to live, laugh and love
and plant your eternal seed
break out of your box
crawl out of your shell
do things the way you like
don't just follow the bell
that controls the things you do
and take away your thought
controls your every move
even the way your taught
there is something you can change
a way to right a wrong
just follow your own path
and stay up all night long
question your own being
stall from being drone
explore what is your life
don't become a clone
in this messed up world
that controls every last step
from birth until the day
you take your final breath

Saturday Morning Special

In an Attempt
by Alex Mobley

I stare at you in class
not in some creepy way
because you stare back at me
we play this little game
like little scared kids
unable to stop the silence
or break the lock between our eyes
we don't know each others name
but we've learned our facial expressions
you bite your lip when excited
wink just to throw me off
thats the few I know
because I think we think alike
but I can't be for certain
we are two different people
what I see as playful
you may interpret different
you bite your lip when nervous
wink at the person next to me
stare blankly in my direction
never actually looking at me
I may be completely wrong
but I am too afraid to ask
for fear of losing this feeling
with the truth that I am crazy
making up my own reality
to adjust what has been
a long time spent alone
tomorrow will bring an answer
when we finally speak
my name is...
what is your name?

Where is my Motivation?
by Alex Mobley

There is a hill in the distance
that I want to climb
at the top stands a prize
something I can't yet reach
between me and that hill
there are many obstacles
some that will test my will
strength and perseverance
can I reach the top?
the answer is unclear now
this journey has not begun
yet it is near its end
the hill moves every second
as if it is unattainable
unable to be approached
incapable of being climbed
not by me or any other
but it is so inviting
green, and covered with flowers
flowers that smell wonderful
when will I reach this hill
without moving forward I can't
I wont ever reach it
never be able to climb to the peak
reach for that prize
know that what I did to get here
was merely a test asked of me
by myself
a motivation that had to be found
only within me
not forced out by others
where do I find it
thats for you to learn
but without that hill
it wont be easy to know

Dealing with Life
By Alex Mobley

Don't ever break the silence
it will only bring on violence
created by the masses
until it one day crashes
taking all their lives
or maybe just their minds
altered from a place
that brings about a space
where all is what we want
nothing too much to flaunt
showing off our skills
that burns and rots and kills
the things that are not a need
for there is no such greed
to be out of the norm
showing an unruly form
such as isms concerning race
sex, age or saving face
nothing can stop this land
becoming a national brand
others continue to trail
with most about to fail
because we can not help
just talk and scream and yelp
to convince to start anew
with their own chance to brew
a step up in common life
needed to keep the knife
out of hands showing blood
avoiding the final flood
making life a little tougher
but ending the lasting suffer

Undeniable
by Alex Mobley

There is nothing like it
that feeling you get
when you finally realize
what you have is real
not some fairy tale hoax
or rom-com falsehood
from your feet
all the way to your head
you know that it's right
you can never live without it
it drags you out of bed
makes you want to smile
gets you through the tough times
even ones they cause
scream it because you can
tell all of your friends
what they wish they had
but some have not felt
the way you do inside
the way you do outside
it's impossible to explain
even those who have tried
still get caught up in the lore
the word has real meaning
but the emotion is what gets
everything out in the open
cherish it while you can
take in every single moment
you don't know how lucky you are
it doesn't disappear
it grows with time
it can run so deep
that no matter what happens
it's impossible to rid
yeah it's called love
but like I said
the word is just one thing
it carries meaning
that only you two share
because you created it
and it will live with you
forever and always

Addiction
by Alex Mobley

visions are like dreams
happening while your awake
more relevant than day dreams
insanity is at stake
delusional you must be
if drugs are not the cause
those things that you see
create your hearts first pause
don't let this stop your breath
or danger will come next
not solely with your death
but in a similar context
trapped in invisible walls
you have never been a mime
this comes from withdrawals
of not doing it in time
get help right away
seek out those who care
in the end it just may
seem like truth or dare
can you trust those who matter
dare yourself to make change
avoid the useless chatter
attempt to rearrange
the clutter in your life
with freedom of thought
removing the bloodied knife
from the good fight you fought

Saturday Evening Special

If the World was Fair
by Alex Mobley

if the world was fair
i would be the mayor
the one who calls the shots
the one who plots the spots
for things to start anew
when everything has come unglued
from the downfall of all kinds
to the revival of the signs
that this will work out for the best
instead of praying to be blessed

if the world was fair
I wouldnt have to stare
she would automatically assume
I wanted to be the groom
and her to be my bride
to stand side by side
as we accepted our small bands
placed upon each others hands
forever we would be
together just you and me
as simple as it sounds
the answer you have found
it doesn't end up great
for that is not our fate
alone we both shall stand
apart in our own dreamland

if the world was fair
i'd be the tortoise not the hare
slow and steady may win the race
but the one who controls the pace
owns the title in this town
placed upon his head a crown
from past successes at the top
never slowing when told stop
thus the leader he shall stay
until someone finds a better way

if the world was fair
i would be a billionaire
not struggling just to get by
with bills five miles high
of expenses that wont be paid
without something I could trade
for my soul would be taken
if I were not mistaken
for somebody with clear sights
to reach the highest heights
instead of trapped under a lie
I will have til the day I die

if the world was fair
I might accept that dare
challenge myself to be great
stray away from all the hate
coursing through my veins
straight into my brains
releasing it to the world
as it was hurled
back into the face
of those who have disgraced
your name for their own gain
so they could rain
down on your parade
while you disobeyed
everything you were told
no longer am I cold

if the world was fair
I might sit in the chair
taking the verbal abuse
as I become the accused
for a crime I had no part
a villain from the start
stuck with the feel of guilt
the case they had built
made me seem like the crook
my whole world shook
rooted up from underground
all the way til the final sound
not guilty was the claim
no longer to be blamed

if the world was fair
I might actually care
that my life was getting better
while typing every letter
that makes up this simple poem
still I must show them
what is the reason for all this
to which it does consist
of everything I had dreamed
from weeks old it seemed
what is it you wonder?
the sky you must look under
for it holds the simple truth
the answer is in your youth
