Goodbye 2010
So many things happened this year, most notably graduating from college, moving to Austin and the birth of Dainty Librarian Clothing. Thank you to everyone who has supported me and has kept up with this blog. I'm planning on making some changes (for the better I hope) next year. Have a happy New Year!

My Holiday Trip
Here are just a few pictures from my visit to California. Probably should have taken more, oh well.
Sarah's makeshift Christmas Tree complete with vintage Santa ornaments and her handmade felt camera ornament (she made me one too!) |
Alex in his Santa Snuggie (we all got one!) |
My darling little Weezer. I miss him already! |
Me and some of my favorite ladies Katherine and Michelle. |
Our little Bunny! |

Back in Austin
Finally made it back to Austin today. After some issues with the plane (had to sit on the runway for an extra half hour after landing) I'm now safely home. I've got some wonderful pictures to share, but to get things started I'm posting these airplane shots with a quote that I found in an old notebook of mine. I wish I knew where I found it in the first place.
At this moment children are being born,
elderly are dying,
harsh words are being spoken,
lingering glances are exchanged over chic cafe tables,
white lies delivered,
fingers glide down bare skin,
wonderful deeds are performed,
purses are left under cinema seats,
worlds are disintegrating like old clay
...and you are fortunate enough to be part of this moment.

California Dreamin'
Still hanging out in California with the family. Since I didn't bring my camera cables or laptop so I'm not able to post pictures until I get back to Austin. We've been playing with our new Wii, eating mashed potatoes and hanging out with the turtles and Bunny. It's quite the life.
Here are some pictures I found on my mom's computer that she took when she came to visit us in September. She was having so much fun with Douglas and our landlord's cat Graceland. I don't think Graceland likes Douglas very much.

Farewell Austin
Also, the shop is still open but only pre-made stuff will be sent out. All customs order will have to wait until January.

The First Christmas
Since there is a scattering of my family I will be enjoying several Christmases this year. This first one was this morning with Leanne. We put on our lovely Santa Snuggies and danced around to Christmas music before settling down with Douglas and opening each others' gifts. I gave Leanne and a deer sweatshirt and a rainbow colored belt and she gave me tickets to see Broken Social Scene. Awesome! Even though I have to wait until February, it's going to be so epic!
Douglas has been dressed as Santa (and probably a little drunk) for days! |

Icon: Marlo Thomas
I only became aware of the lovely Marlo Thomas about two years ago when my mom gave Leanne and I the first Season of "That Girl". I instantly fell in love with her hair! She is so completely adorable and I just found out that she has her own video blog called "Mondays with Marlo." After all these years she still looks amazing!

Oh Monday.
Monday has come back around and I have chosen not to welcome it. Instead I've spent the morning looking at this and that and a little of this too. So very lovely. I spent the weekend putting together the last of my gifts to be taken across the states with me and photoshopping pictures of cats (yes, that is what I do).

Sunday Afternoon
Recording music today! Leanne made a film about a year ago and we are now finally getting around to finishing it up. Just need a little glockenspiel to complete it. Once we are finished with it perhaps we will start on a film set in Austin. This one definitely needs to get finished first though.
Here's Leanne's first film. A darling little love story set in the cold winter of Sweden. I hope you enjoy it.

Happy Friday!
Austin is finally showing signs of winter. I walked down to the post office today and the sky was white and the air was cold. Such a lovely Friday. I hope you all have a great weekend!

Living in the Shadows
In exactly a week I'll be boarding a plane to California and I can't wait! As much as I love Austin and all it's fabulousness, I'm excited to hit up some of my old stomping grounds with my best friend and spend some time with my family. I just need to get through these next couple of days, perhaps this free download of a new Beach House song will help.

Candyland
For my mom's last night in Austin here with us we made our very own gingerbread houses. So much better than those prefab kits!
Our candy village. |
My candy corn house. |
Momma Jo's simple house. |
Leanne's triple story house, complete with guards at the front door. |
The town bonfire. |
My roof complete with a helicopter landing pad and helicopter! |

Best Horoscope Ever
Found today in the Austin Statesman
Cancer (June 22-July 22)
There are so many unknowns that to speculate an outcome at this point would just be silly. Trust life's process. You might not get what you want, but you'll get something so much better than what you originally wanted.

Monday! Monday! Monday!
On Saturday Leanne and I went to an art opening at Domy Books. Even though the art exhibit wasn't so great the bookstore is amazing! One of the best parts was when we were leaving and Santa Claus walked around the corner, there were two guys standing outside smoking and one said, "I think I was getting high with Santa!" The East side can be such a wonderful place. Anyway, when we were looking around the bookstore I got the idea to make my own Laser Cat book sort of thing. Here are some images I played around with to get things started.

Happy Friday!
Once again I'm spending my day off working on things for the store. I've got a very ambitious to-do list today and I'm hoping to get through it all: 5 sweatshirts, a dress (I got the best gold leopard fabric!) and record some music for Leanne's still unfinished short film from last January. I think there will have to be a nap in there somewhere, maybe a little reading, and perhaps a documentary. I better get back to it!

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World
So I'm a little slow when it comes to watching really great TV shows. I didn't start watching Six Feet Under until about two summers ago when it was over. Arrested Development was introduced to me after it had been pulled from the air and I couldn't protest it being cancelled and almost the same thing happened with Mad Men. I don't know why I avoided it for as long as I did (not having a TV probably had something to do with it) but it's absolutely fantastic and for someone who studied production design and loves vintage clothes, sometimes I cannot get over how amazing this show really is. I finally got all the way through Season 3 and am very impatiently waiting for the day that Season 4 will be available on Netflix. If anyone would like to buy me the DVDs for Christmas, it would be a very welcomed gift by both me and Leanne. :)

You Really Can't Escape Christmas
It is everywhere. In the stores, at your coffee shop, in your music, in your house, (maybe in your spirit). I feel like Christmas should have come and gone already based on how long Christmas decorations have been out. I think most of them are collecting dust already. It seems that the weather in Austin finally got the hint and tried a little harder to emulate what December should like look. Cloudy, cold, but still lovely. Even though I'm not always able to get into the Christmas spirit, I do love winter. I found these lovely pictures by Miranda Lehman that perfectly capture a wintery world I would love to live in.
