Douglas & Yomiko

The other day Leanne and I got a package from our mom containing the newest addition to our family, Yomiko and a note...

They met in an online chatroom.  He...was "Awesome in Austin," she was "Cori from California."  They knew it was "real" from the start.  He would go online in the wee hours of the morning and they would chat until dawn.  She knew that one day they would be together.  One night her weeping was heard by a night shift supervisor named Julie who listened to her story of ho they'd met and how they longed to be together and she vowed to find a way to make it happen.
And she did.
My mom has got one helluva imagination and I love it!

Crazy Crazy days...

I'm going to try ever so vigilantly to keep up here this week, but I know it will be tough.  I am starting training at a new job (I have my own desk whoop whoop!) and still finishing out my final two weeks at my other job.  So it's one to the next and then probably straight to bed!  Even more exciting though is that SXSW is just around the corner and my brothers will be here before I know it!  Now let's hope I make it through all of this.

Other accomplishments of the past couple days include getting a new (used) car, watching all 3 of the Mighty Ducks movies and seeing the Walkmen at Stubb's. Yay!

Kite Festival

Yesterday was the annual Kite festival here in Austin and it couldn't have been a lovelier day.  We had lemonade, corn dogs, and cotton candy and enjoyed all the different kites flying in the sky.  Even though it was so pretty, there were a few times when I was scared for my life, kites would fall right down in front of you, or sometimes on top of you!

There were so many people!

Corn dog battle royale!

Happy Friday!

This week has been a blur!  I'm still trying to catch up and recover from the San Antonio trip.  Phew!  Here are a couple pictures from the "Faux Show," my darling friend Rachel was fabulous!
Have a fantastic weekend!

Betsey Johnson's new line of evening dress makes me wish I had a prom to go to.
Photoshop fun.  When a friend of ours was having a birthday but we couldn't make, we sent over this.

Travel Log: San Antonio

Lunch at John T. Floores Country Store in Helotes.
The McNay Art Museum

The Cocktail Party Installation was amazing!
Yay for jumping in front of banana sculptures!
We decided that this sculpture had the same nose as me.
Our first round on the River Walk. Yummy margaritas!
Second round.

Third or fourth round?
After our fourth shot of tequila.
All in all, I'd say the trip was a success.

Travel Log: Enchanted Rock

On Friday I got a chance to drive out to Enchanted Rock.  It was so beautiful and so hot!  I guess I didn't do my research because I thought it would be a nice little walk and turned out to be a very steep incline, but we made it to the top!  Here's a little more info on it:
Climb to the top of this unique pink granite dome that rises 425 feet above the surrounding countryside. It is one of the largest batholiths, or exposed underground rock formations, in the US. Tonkawa Indians named it, believing ghost fires flickered at the top and that a Spanish conquistador had cast a spell on it.

So glad I wore boots!
I was terrified that my hat would fly off at any moment!
The granite has a pretty pink color to it.
After our hot hike, we were in dire need of some root beer floats and french fries so we stopped at the little town of Llano (pronounced "yawn-o" although most Austinites call it "lan-o").  It's such an adorable little town, like most of the others surrounding Austin, full of antique stores and friendly people.
