What's the secret?

Whenever I come across someone who says they've been married for several decades I ask them, "what's the secret?"  Most people don't have an answer, some have truly bizarre answers (one woman told me that I need a house with a basement) and then there are a few that seem to hold some truth.  The other day a woman told me she had been married for 57 years and I of course asked her the question, she told me
"Be sexy and romantic."
Pretty interesting coming from an nonagenarian, but I think this one probably holds some truth to it.  What was even funnier is when she told me, "you know, give him kisses and show him love when he comes home" as she threw her arms around me.  I only hope that when I'm her age I'll have half her energy and spark.

Douglas & Yomiko

The other day Leanne and I got a package from our mom containing the newest addition to our family, Yomiko and a note...

They met in an online chatroom.  He...was "Awesome in Austin," she was "Cori from California."  They knew it was "real" from the start.  He would go online in the wee hours of the morning and they would chat until dawn.  She knew that one day they would be together.  One night her weeping was heard by a night shift supervisor named Julie who listened to her story of ho they'd met and how they longed to be together and she vowed to find a way to make it happen.
And she did.
My mom has got one helluva imagination and I love it!

Fall in Love with February

It seems that each year February comes along and I want nothing more to hide under the covers in bed.  You can't avoid Valentine's Day, it's EVERYWHERE.  If I was single then I didn't want to see couples who were happy and in love and if I was in a relationship I would set him up with such high expectations (all in my mind of course) and was inevitably disappointed.  This year I've decided to make a change.  I'm taking Valentine's Day back, heck I'm taking the whole month of February, to allow myself to be totally and completely in love with me.  I will embrace the color pink and enjoy all the little heart shaped items at the stores.  There's no reason not too.  I think sometimes we get so caught up with the day to day stuff that we forget about ourselves, and why not take a month so filled with love to show some love to yourself?

If you want to take it even further, I highly recommend heading over to Gala Darling to learn about what she calls "Radical Self Love."  It's pretty fantastic!

Pink nail polish for February!
